A Shetland sheepdog puppy is know to be a very good dog and will obey the owner. Sheltie puppies are considered to be very smart. Some Sheltie breeders and Sheltie owners view the breed as having human like intelligence. Shelties have been known to be a wonderful option for a family dog. The breed is affectionate and loyal. The Shetland sheepdog will tolerate children. They are friendly with most people, yet at times can become cautious with strangers. A Sheltie puppy has the potential to make a wonderful watchdog in the future.
The Shetland sheepdog or Sheltie dog breed is best known as a companion. They have perfect characteristics for being man's best friend. They are very gentle and loyal. They are so smart and are seen as one of the smartest dog breeds known to man.
Many Sheltie owners will tell you that you should get your new Sheltie puppy from a reputable Sheltie dog breeder. This is important because the breeder will know how to socialize the pup from an early age. A home raised, and well socialized base allows for a more responsive Sheltie that will ease right in with the new family that adopts him or her. Shetland Sheep dogs have an innate need to be busy. The breed tends to become very bored if left home alone with no one to play with. The Sheltie has been known to chase things...even cars! This is important to remember when considering a Sheltie. The dog must be kept on a leash when outdoors with you and needs to be safe inside when left alone.
The Shetland Sheep dog or Sheltie is a very popular breed today, especially with families because of its kind and smart characteristics. Not only stunning in looks, but also very smart, the Sheltie makes a great friend. Grooming your new Sheltie puppy is not a tedious task, as one might think. The coat of the Sheltie is shed on a seasonal basis. The undercoat of the dog is shed twice a year: This occurs in the spring and fall. Shelties feel a need to keep clean on their own. A bath every once and a while is recommended, as well as a daily combing of the coat. This helps to rid it of any knots.
